There’s only so much you can do to prevent an ex from dishing on the details of your relationship after it comes to an end. Former NFL player Matt Kalil learned that the hard way courtesy of his ex-wife, and he decided to take her to court after she got very candid while discussing an intimate factor she says contributed to their divorce.

There’s certainly no shortage of professional athletes who’ve ended up in a relationship with a model, and retired NFL tackle became a member of that club during his playing days when he married Haley O’Brien a year after she represented her native Minnesota at the Miss USA pageant in 2014.

Kalil was playing for the Vikings at the time, and the offensive tackle spent five of his six NFL seasons with the team before playing his final one with the Panthers in 2017. He attempted a comeback with the Texans a couple of years later, but ultimately decided to hang up his cleats after being cut in 2019.

He largely stayed out of the public eye after that point, but the same couldn’t be said for his wife at the time. Haley appeared in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue three years in a row after she and Camille Kostek were dubbed the winners of a contest in 2018, and she racked up millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram while growing her profile.

She filed for divorce in 2022 before shedding some light on the circumstances surrounding the split last year, and she’s found herself being served with a lawsuit as a result.

In November, Haley sat down with streamer Marlon Garcia for a discussion where she reflected on her marriage to Kalil, and nothing she said garnered more attention than a segment where she compared a certain part of his male anatomy to “two Coke cans” while asserting their romantic incompatibility was “the biggest factor” in their divorce.

Kalil, who married model Keilani Asmus in 2024, didn’t address those comments at the time, but according to TMZ, he has decided to sue his ex-wife for the unwanted attention he received in the wake of her admission.

The outlet reviewed the legal filing where Kalil cited the psychological toll he’s had to endure due to “unwanted attention and invasive commentary from the public” over the “degrading and deeply personal statements,” saying his current wife has also been subjected to messages that have become “increasingly frequent, disturbing, and alarming in nature over time.”

Haley responded to the lawsuit with a fairly ironic statement about what she’ll have to endure, saying :

“Litigation is a harrowing and emotionally draining experience, and I am heartbroken that he is choosing to subject us and our families to this ordeal.”

Kalil has requested a jury trial and is seeking damages north of $75,000.
