This week in at the PGA Championship was unlike maybe any other in golf history. World-number-one Scottie Scheffler’s controversial arrest Friday morning just outside of Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville was a sports story that was truly unique.
Scheffler played himself into contention with a great round on Friday just hours after his arrest. But, he faded (understandably) on Saturday with a 73, before following it up with a 65 on Sunday to finish in the top ten. He actually beat Max Homa, ranked ninth in the world, despite spending Friday morning in jail!
Max Homa had a decent week, all things considered. He played all four rounds under par and finished at -8, good for a T35. But, that’s not good enough for a guy who is looking for his first major championship, and he surely wishes he was more in contention.
He’s known as having one of the best personalities on tour and is known for being able to keep it loose. That’s what he did after his round, when he cracked a joke on Instagram about losing to a player that was jailed during the tournament!
That’s a fantastic caption by Max Homa. That’s why he’s one of the most beloved players on tour.
Thankfully for Scottie Scheffler, it does sound like the charges are going to be dropped this week. But, still, being arrested and being charged with a felony, among other lesser charges, over what seems to be a misunderstanding is a pretty off-putting thing to happen at any time, let alone during a major championship.
Some news this morning: According to a source familiar with the office’s thinking, Jefferson County prosecutors are planning, as of now, to drop the charges against Scottie Scheffler early next week. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 am on Tuesday. @NoLayingUp

Homa’s next chance to win a major will be the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina next month.
