On Tuesday night, the Las Vegas Aviators took on the Oklahoma City Baseball Club at Las Vegas Ballpark in a regular season game between the Triple-A affiliates of the Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
What made the occasion special and not just some run-of-the-mill Minor League game was the fact that each team had a player named Max Muncy in their lineup.
Oklahoma City’s Max Muncy was the 33-year-old Dodgers’ third baseman, who was there as part of a rehab assignment after suffering an oblique strain back in May.
The Aviators’ Max Muncy was the 21-year-old shortstop prospect of the Oakland A’s, who is inching very close to getting called up the big leagues.
Making the occasion even more unique is the fact that the first ball 21-year-old Muncy put into play was hit to the 33-year-old Muncy. Then, later in the game, he actually scored a run on a throwing error by, you guessed it, Max Muncy.

But wait… it gets even weirder.
Both the 21-year-old Muncy and the 33-year-old Muncy were each drafted by the Oakland A’s.
The younger Max Muncy is from Los Angeles, where the older Max Muncy plays.
He also played with the Double-A Midland RockHounds last season and the other Max Muncy is from Midland, Texas.
Hang on, that’s not all.
They each share the exact same birthday: August 25th!
“It was awesome,” the Aviators’ Max Muncy said about finally getting to meet his namesake. “Obviously, it’s been a long time coming. I mean, my grandparents have followed him since he was at Baylor, so we’ve known about him for a while. So I think it was just a lot of years of knowing him, and it was kind of cool to meet him. Obviously I’m from L.A., so I hear about him all the time and I get all the questions.”
