The LA Chargers opened training camp last week and the team’s star running back Melvin Gordon has been a no-show as he tries to negotiate a new contract.
When the #Chargers report to camp today, RB Melvin Gordon will not be among his teammates, source said. He’ll follow through on his plans to holdout and will be subject to fines. This should be lengthy, as talks are expected to halt and LAC will focus on the backs who are there.

According to ESPN’s Josina Andderson. Gordon has requested a trade out of San Diego ater the team offered him $10 million a year.
Chargers RB Melvin Gordon's agent Damarius Bilbo tells me he requested a trade last wk for his client, after the team remained at their initial offer of aprox $10M/ year. GM Tom Telesco told Bilbo, Gordon is still family, but Bilbo was not given permission to seek trade partners.

[Cont.] Last year, Bilbo was able to successfully convince the Miami Dolphins to move client WR Jarvis Landry on a tag & trade, to alleviate the valuation constraints and differences that he similarly faces now with Gordon and the Chargers. As of now, the stalemate remains.

In short, keep ur eye on this Gordon situation to see how it shakes out. A solution has to come to pass to alleviate getting Gordon his value, while addressing the fact that the Chargers have others to pay & depth too. So does a trade provide the only daylight w/o a number budge?

Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson believes the Chargers and Gordon are about 2-3 million apart from signing a new deal.
#Chargers & Melvin Gordon talks are $2-$3 million apart in average salary. Chargers hoping for a raise over #Falcons’ Devonta Freeman (5 years, $41.25 mil). Gordon aiming closer to #Cardinals’ David Johnson (3 yrs, $39 mil). I think $12 mil per yr w/ incentives would get it done.

Chargers QB Philip Rivers doesn’t seem to be too worried about the Melvin Gordon situation considering how deep the team is at the position.
Philip Rivers quote on Melvin Gordon. We spoke about this in a recently recorded podcast. I was worried then, even more now.
