Miami Dolphins Land Surprise ‘Pro Bowl’ QB To Replace Injured Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins have signed a Pro Bowl quarterback to replace injured starter Tua Tagovailoa, but it’s probably not the one that most people expect.

Ryan Tannehill was the popular name to fill in for Tagovailoa as he recovers from yet another concussion. But the Dolphins went in a different direction.

Instead, Miami signed veteran Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Huntley spent several years as Lamar Jackson’s backup in Baltimore and shined in four stars in place of an injured Jackson in 2022. Huntley was even named to the 2022 Pro Bowl after several other big-name quarterbacks pulled out of the event.

For his career, Huntley has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. But he’s also rushed for 509 yards and three touchdowns on 105 carries. That’s an adding dynamic that he may well need behind a spotty-at-best Miami offensive line.

Despite Huntley technically making the Pro Bowl in 2022, fans were a bit dubious about that distinction. Particularly, they were upset about how Huntley got to the Pro Bowl.

Pro Bowl QB will be etched into this man’s gravestone fifty years from now,” one fan tweeted.

What were (his) stats the year he allegedly made the Pro Bowl,” another asked.

Pelissero also reported that Dolphins backup Skylar Thompson is expected to start next week against the Seattle Seahawks. But Huntley, a Miami native, could well take over the job in the weeks after.

Miami coach Mike McDaniel did not have an answer when asked how long Tagovailoa will be out. But he said he told his star quarterback to worry about his health and his family before thinking about any potential return.
