Miami is up and Florida State is down. College football rivalries often lack logic or decorum.

With that being said, Hurricanes fans should be careful when it comes to pouring salt in the Seminoles’ wounds given that it is only Week 3 and anything can happen on any given Saturday.

Putting that warning aside, let’s dive into the hilarity of what went down in Coral Gables after the catastrophe in Tallahassee. Not even a lengthy weather delay could dampen the mood of ‘The U.’

Mike Norvell and Florida State ranked No. 10 in the country prior to the season. They quickly fell to 0-1 with a loss to Georgia Tech in Ireland, to 0-2 with a loss Boston College, and now to 0-3 with a loss to Memphis. Their College Football Playoff hopes were dashed in Week 2. They can no longer exceed their expected win total of 9.5 wins after just three games.

To make matters worse, the Seminoles paid the Tigers $1.3 million for the loss and absolutely nobody showed up to witness such an embarrassing showing. Doak S. Campbell stadium was empty.

Miami fans are mocking Florida State!

Meanwhile, their biggest rivals are playing as well as they have in a very long time. The Hurricanes took over the No. 10 ranking after a pair of blowout wins over the Florida Gators and Florida A&M Rattlers. Quarterback Cam Ward looks like a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender.

The energy at Miami is palpable and fans were quick to mock Florida State for its loss as soon as the score went final. Their antics were petty, especially considering which team is currently on a three-game win streak in the rivalry series, but it was also hilarious.

It is a rough time to be a fan of the garnet and gold. The season is essentially lost already.

However, the Seminoles have a chance to turn things around and could play the spoiler down the stretch. They would love nothing more than to ruin the Hurricanes’ season in Coral Gables on Oct. 26.

Remember this moment— when Miami fans did the ‘War Chant’ in Week 3 — because it could come back to haunt them. We can all share a laugh at Florida State’s expense for now.
