The Miami Hurricanes have signed former Oregon State defensive back Conrad Hussey to join the 2026 roster. The former four-star recruit is plenty familiar with his new program.

Hussey played two years at rival Florida State. The Hurricanes appear to be overlooking a rocky exit in order to add him to the fold.

Who is Miami DB Conrad Hussey?

The safety hails from Fort Lauderdale where he played high school football at St. Thomas Aquinas. As a prospect, he was a Top 150 recruit in the ’23 cycle.

Hussey signed with FSU over a number of notable offers. He made an immediate impact in Tallahassee, totaling 22 tackles, two forced fumbles, and an interception during his rookie year.

After that debut, his role was expected to grow. It didn’t happen. While he made three starts as a sophomore, he was benched by season’s end.

Things unfortunately got worse before they got better for the defender. Reports from Florida State suggested he’d fallen out of the coaching staff’s good graces.

He was believed to be one of a handful of players to have effort challenged by Seminoles defensive coordinator Tony White.

“There’s some guys who need to step their a– up. It’s unacceptable. We all need to make sure we’re on the same page, and we understand what’s asked of us, and what the expectations are.

“Either guys do it, or they don’t… There are some guys that you are expecting much more from that are not doing what they’re asked to do. They’re not doing what they’re being taught to do. Therefore, they won’t play.”

A day after White’s comments, it was announced that Hussey was no longer a part of the team. Many assumed there was a direct correlation. There was more to the story.

Hussey fought an assistant.

Mike Norvell was asked about the dismissal later in the week. He confirmed rumors of a physical altercation with a staff member.

“He’s been dismissed from the team,” Norvell said of the roster removal. “Obviously grateful for the time we’ve been able to be together. At the end of the day, it’s a decision that was made.”

Conrad Hussey got the boot less than three weeks before Florida State’s football opener vs. Alabama. He quickly landed at Oregon State, though he didn’t see much action.

The secondary member played in three games recording five tackles across 47 snaps. He will be able to utilize a redshirt, giving him two years to compete at Miami.

In 2026, he’ll play his former team at home in mid-October. If he sticks around for a second season, he’ll get a chance to return to Tallahassee.

The Hurricanes overlooked any red flags that might’ve stemmed from Hussey’s past at Florida State, whether those be related to effort or attitude. They’ll look to recapture the freshman season form seen in his first year with the ‘Noles.
