According to NBA insider Amin Elhassan, who is also a former member of the Phoenix Suns’ front office, the Miami Heat were recently the victims of “one of the largest heists” of sports memorabilia ever. Not only that, many of the items were later sold on the black market. Elhassan made this shocking reveal on Monday’s episode of The Dan LeBatard Show.
“This one concerns memorabilia,” Amin Elhassan told the show. “Authenticated memorabilia, stolen from the Miami Heat, and sold for many, many, many, many, many millions of dollars. Perhaps one of the largest heists of this kind.
How it got discovered
Elhassan continued: “Game worn stuff, that’s been stolen and sold for at least 18 months. Something like that. So I did some reporting. I talked to some sources. And sources within the memorabilia community. And apparently … we’re talking about game worn stuff … game worn Finals stuff. And his person was taking them and selling them, both within the regular market and within the black market.
“What red flagged it within the memorabilia community is you never see people with this much stuff, right? You might get a game worn jersey, but to get like a game worn full set? NBA Finals? For multiple players?
“As it was described to me, this is one of the largest, if not the largest memorabilia heist in the history of this country in any sport. Beyond that, some of the people involved include a Miami police officer and someone with ties to the NBA.”
Are authorities investigating?
Amin Elhassan added in the caption to video of his bombshell reveal about the stolen Miami Heat memorabilia that a “federal investigation is ongoing and will be announced soon.”
The Miami Heat last made the NBA Finals during the 2022-23 season. They also made the Finals in 2020, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2006. The 2011 to 2014 teams were famous for having the “Big Three” of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh.
