Miami Marlins Outfielder Dane Myers Breaks Ankle After Kicking Clubhouse Door Following Ejection

Miami Marlins outfielder Dane Myers is headed for an extended stay on the injured list following the All-Star break.

And it was entirely avoidable.

Myers broke his ankle when he kicked a door following an ejection from Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Myers was ejected when he argued a check-swing call in the top of the eighth inning that resulted in a strikeout. Miami trailed the Reds 10-6 at the time with two runners on base in the top of the eighth inning.

Now the 28-year-old is set for six-to-eight weeks of time off.

“I took a swipe at the door with my foot, and I didn’t think I kicked it that hard, but I fractured my foot,” Myers said of the injury.

He did note, thankfully, that there was no displacement, so he will not have to undergo surgery.

Myers is hitting .265 with a pair of home runs and 14 RBIs for the Marlins, primarily as a bench bat.

Dane Myers Is Just The Latest Hit To A Disastrous Miami Marlins Season

The injury is just the latest hit to a Marlins organization that has taken a massive step back in 2024. Miami went 84-78 in 2023, eventually losing in the National League Wild Card round to the Philadelphia Phillies.

It marked just the second time in franchise history that the Marlins made the playoffs and didn’t win the World Series.

But general manager Kim Ng left the organization following the season.

“Last week, (owner) Bruce (Sherman) and I discussed his plan to reshape the baseball operations department,” Ng said in a statement to the Athletic. “In our discussions, it became apparent that we were not completely aligned on what that should look like. I felt it best to step away.”

This year, Miami has the second-worst record in baseball at 33-63 and it recently traded All-Star second baseman Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres.
