There’s a chant that Philadelphia sports fans like to use that goes “no one likes us, we don’t care!”
As a Philadelphia sports fan, I can unequivocally tell you that we do, in fact, care. It’s not that we want people to like us. Quite the opposite, we thrive on that hate. But it’s the hate that fuels us.
This brings us to the latest incident involving the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
In a recent discussion with Bills edge rusher Von Miller, Cowboys’ superstar linebacker Micah Parsons was asked if Jalen Hurts should be the league’s MVP.
Hurts, who’s in his third year in the NFL, has had a breakout season. He’s completed 66 percent of his passes for 3,157 yards, 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He’s also added 686 yards on the ground to go along with 10 touchdowns and the Eagles have the best record in the league at 12-1.
While Parsons acknowledged that Hurts has had a great year, he also pointed out that the Eagles have surrounded him with talent and a great scheme. You’d think that this would be a compliment.
But again, these are Philadelphia fans, and even the slightest perceived slight sends them into chaos. This was no different. Eagles players and fans were furious over the comments and have spent the last 48 hours shooting back at Parsons.
Meanwhile, Parsons isn’t backing down.
Micah Parsons Doubles Down On Jalen Hurts Comments
Parsons was asked to clarify his comments on Thursday and rather than walk them back, he doubled down.
“I mean, you’ve got to stand on everything you say just as a man, but obviously, they small-clipped it and took one line of what was really talked about,” Parsons said. “But no pun intended or no disrespect to Hurts, I think he’s doing great this year. But you know me, I’m a defensive guy and I said the Eagles’ defense is the team to watch. They just got helluva players over there that’s been making plays all year, so from a defensive aspect, I know how offensive guys get all the credit, so I just want to stick up for the defensive guys because the conversation was most valuable player, is it just quarterback? – via ESPN
He was then asked about how Philadelphia responded to the comments and he knew exactly what to expect.
“I’m pretty sure they hate me,” he said.
It wouldn’t be Cowboys-Eagles if they didn’t. The two teams are set to meet on Christmas Eve with Dallas still two games behind Philadelphia for the NFC East lead.
