The Notre Dame basketball team fell at home to ACC rival Louisville on Sunday, 75-60. It was the squad’s fourth loss in its last five tries as the Fighting Irish dropped to 5-9 in conference play.

Head coach Micah Shrewsberry was livid after the fact. He went on an epic rant in his postgame press conference where he begged the fanbase to support his losing bunch.

Shrewsberry asked fans not to give up on his players despite the recent struggles. He also took a shot at the Fighting Irish’s non-existent home crowd.

“Don’t give up on these kids, because we’re gonna get this thing rolling. I sat there and watched more Louisville fans than Notre Dame people. That’s embarrassing… I got us in this predicament, but don’t come back when we’re winning.”

Notre Dame fans haven’t had much to cheer for this basketball season. The team is currently ranked 13th in the 18-team ACC. It appears on track to miss the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in the last eight years.

Micah Shrewsberry is in Year 2 of his tenure with the Fighting Irish. He’s posted a 24-34 record thus far in South Bend.

While he’s failed to turn things around in his brief stint, the coach believes the administration is behind him. He wants to see the same from the fanbase in hopes of creating a home court advantage as opposed to being outnumbered by visitors.

Fans will have back-to-back opportunities to do so with the Irish hosting SMU and Pitt in Purcell Pavilion this week. We’ll see if the coach’s rant lights a fire under players and supporters moving forward.
