Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to make NFL history as the first team to ever win three consecutive Super Bowls. Eight teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls, but no one has been able to get it done for a third straight year.

One team that came reasonably close was the mid-1990s Cowboys. They won three Super Bowls in four years but fell short in the NFC Championship Game following the 1995 season. Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin was a big part of that great run.

On a recent appearance on The Jim Rome Show, Rome asked Michael Irvin if he thought the Chiefs would pull off a three-peat. Irvin didn’t necessarily directly answer the question, but he did relay a story about seeing Kelce at a Dallas Mavericks game and the world’s most famous boyfriend asking him for advice about trying to make history.

That seems like good advice for not just Travis Kelce, but the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs this year. Winning a Super Bowl is hard. Yes, they’re the favorite. But, they’re odds are around +600, implying around a 15% chance of winning the Super Bowl.  But, the last thing that you’d want is any regrets when you have a chance to make history like this.

They definitely have the talent, and they patched their biggest hole from last season, which was wide receiver. Not only did they use a first-rounder on Texas speedster Xavier Worthy, but they also acquired a high-upside piece in Hollywood Brown. Rashee Rice could face a suspension for off-field incidents, but when they have all of those wideouts plus Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes will have a plethora of options.

They did lose an important piece on defense in cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. But, they resigned Chris Jones and have a great young core for DC Steve Spagnuolo to work with.

That being said, there’s a reason no one has won three in a row. It’s incredibly hard, and they will have a big target on their backs all year.
