Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has compared his vices to his brother Jontay Porter’s, who was banned for life from the NBA and is facing criminal charges due to alleged match fixing. MPJ says that while his brother’s vice is gambling, his own vice is women.
Jontay Porter, Michael Porter Jr’s younger brother, was signed by the Memphis Grizzlies as an undrafted free agent before eventually landing with the Toronto Raptors in 2023.
It was during the 2023-24 season that Porter conducted that alleged match fixing that has seen him banned for life from the NBA and facing jail time. Porter has pled guilty to one count of wire fraud conspiracy and his sentencing is scheduled for December, with the former NBA pro facing more than four years in prison.
Michael Porter Jr. said on a recent podcast that while he, too, struggles with vices, his comes in the form of women.

“Everybody has different vices. Everybody has different things that they struggle with. That can go with people who struggle from alcohol, people that struggle with drugs. You know, for example, my brother struggled with gambling. My vice has always come in the form of women. And when I’m far from God, and I’m not in my word, I’m not praying, I’m not prioritizing Him, like that seems to be the place that the devil gets me, is in the space of women,” Porter Jr. said on the Curious Mike podcast.

Porter Jr. also seemed to imply that his inability to remain faithful to a partner is why he’s single despite the fact that many of his siblings are married.
“I got two younger brothers that are married. I got two older sisters that are married. I’m the only one that’s not married. And I feel that God kind of gives you what you’re prepared to handle. And so far in my life, like a good woman, I don’t think I’m ready to handle that because I’m all over the place. Sometimes I’m good and sometimes I’m not,” he added.
Porter Jr., 27 years old, was drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the 14th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Porter Jr. won an NBA title with the team in 2023. Thus far through his career, Porter Jr. is averaging 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
Earlier this summer, Porter Jr. and a 2032 first round NBA Draft pick were traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Cam Johnson, making the upcoming 2025-26 season his first playing with a different team than the Nuggets.
