Are you struggling to deal with the high price of gas? If you are, NFL sideline reporter-turned Senate candidate Michele Tafoya has got your solution.
According to AAA, as of Friday, the national average for a gallon of gas in the United States is $3.912. In some states, such as California and Washington, the average price of a gallon of gas is over $5. Residents in several other states, like Illinois, Arizona, and Oregon, are paying more than $4 per gallon. So, anyone who relies heavily on a vehicle to make ends meet has found life more difficult these days.
However, 61-year-old Michele Tafoya, who retired from sideline reporting after the 2021 NFL season and is now running for the Minnesota Senate, thinks the solution to the current high gas prices is simple.
“I know it’s frustrating, and I know it’s hard for people,” she told KWAM radio. “What I would say to them is we’ve lost some service members over there who have put their lives on the line to protect us, to protect the region, protect America’s friends in the region.
“It used to be during past wars, especially World War II, Americans got behind our servicemen and women, and we did little things to show our support for them.
“I think right now at least just kind of keeping a stiff upper lip. Maybe you take one less trip to Starbucks and so that gas goes a little further until this thing is over and these gas prices come back down again.
“Let’s just try to be patriots about this,” Tafoya continued. “Whether you agree with it or not, we’re there and we’ve got to support our men and women in uniform. That’s a big one.”
Michele Tafoya’s comments about gas prices called tone-deaf and elitist
If Michele Tafoya really thinks making “one less trip to Starbucks” is the solution to millions of Americans’ struggles with the high price of gas is the solution, she is in for a serious wake-up call.
“MAGA Michele wants your family to sacrifice so Republicans can blindly follow the President into another forever war in the Middle East,” Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig wrote in response to Tafoya’s remarks.
“We drink our coffee at home. Remember us, the 70 percent who live paycheck to paycheck,” another X user commented.
The average price of regular gas in Minnesota has risen almost 80 cents per gallon in the past month. 30 days ago, it was $2.671 per gallon. Today it is $3.443, which is still significantly lower than the national average.
