The Michigan Wolverines stunned the college football world earlier this week when they fired head coach Sherrone Moore for cause amid allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship with a staffer.
However, according to a new report, the Wolverines could, and perhaps should, have fired Moore well before he actually lost his job.
Rachel Hopmayer of CBS Detroit reports that Michigan only stepped in and fired Moore after its third investigation into alleged sexual misconduct.
Moore’s firing is a result of Michigan’s *third* investigation into his alleged conduct with women, per sources within the program.

Additionally, Hopmayer reports that Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel was made aware of Moore’s struggles with his mental health on Sunday, three days before firing him.
Moore was arrested after his firing amid allegations that he stalked and threatened the woman with whom he had an alleged inappropriate relationship.
“According to the source, who is within the program, prominent donors told Manuel about Moore having mental health issues,” Hopmayer reported. “Manuel fired Moore in a one-on-one conversation without human resources or security present before holding a team and staff meeting in Schembechler Hall, according to the source. It was unclear if Moore’s mental state contributed to the firing.”
As of the time of writing, Moore is still being held in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail, with undersherrif Matt Harshberger confirming to the Detroit Free Press that he “anticipated arraignment 1 p.m. today, depending on prosecutor’s office decision.”
“The matter involving Mr. Moore remains under active investigation by law enforcement, and as a result, we do not expect charging decisions or an arraignment today,” Prosecutor Eli Savit said in a statement on Thursday. “…As this remains an active investigation, we are unable to comment further at this time, but our office will provide an update once a decision on charges is made.”
