Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy boldly revealed that he’s driven drunk “a thousand” times while discussing the recent DUI arrest of star running back Ollie Gordon.

Mike Gundy, speaking to the media on Tuesday, July 9, was trying to make an analogy that made light of Gordon’s arrest by making the point that he’s done what Gordon was arrested for “thousands of times” in his life.

“College football has changed as we all know, and we can say these guys aren’t employees, but they’re really employees — these guys get paid a lot of money,” Gundy began.

“Which is fine,” he continued, “But there needs to be a side to what they do that they have to be able to, for lack of a better term, face the music and own up to things. And when I looked at it, I thought, ‘Okay, I’m gonna be real honest with myself first, and then make the best decision for what I think’s good for Ollie [Gordon], our university, and our team.”

Then came Gundy’s admission that he’s driven while being at or past the legal alcohol limit “a thousand times” in his life.

“And then I started thinking about being a parent: I have a 28, 23, and 19 [year old kids]. And first… I looked it up on my phone: What would be the legal limit in Oklahoma? And it was .08, and Ollie was .10, so I looked it up, and it was based on body weight — not to get into the legal side of it — but I thought, two or three beers, or four…” Gundy said.

“I’m not justifying what Ollie did, I’m telling you what decision I made. I thought, ‘I’ve probably done that a thousand times in my life.'”
