Mike Gundy is the winningest college football coach in Oklahoma State history. And yet, he is going to get himself fired if he keeps taking photos with fans during blowout losses.

There is simply no way to defend him on this one.

The 58-year-old needs to show the college football fanbase (and the administration) in Stillwater that he is taking his job seriously. He cannot afford to mess around as calls for his head get louder.

Oklahoma State needs to find an identity in a hurry.

Last season was Mike Gundy’s first losing season since his first year at his alma mater in 2005. The Cowboys are trending toward a similar result in 2025.

They began the new season with an underwhelming loss to a bad UT Martin team in Week 1. They showed absolutely no signs of life during a 66-point loss to Oregon on Saturday.

The Pokes are getting restless. Gundy is on track to finish with more losses than wins if he cannot pull it together before conference play.

To be fair, his program does not have the financial resources of other schools in the Big 12 and his starting quarterback (who was not that good to begin with) broke his foot in the season-opener.

That does not excuse a 69-3 loss in which the Ducks totaled more than 300 yards through the air and more than 300 yards on the ground. Nor does it excuse a 25% conversion rate on third down.

I do not see how the Oklahoma State team that showed up in Eugene last week can beat Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech, Kansas or Iowa State. It will be a challenge to reach bowl eligibility with wins over Arizona, Cincinnati, Kansas State and UCF.

Maybe Mike Gundy will get things turned around in a hurry. Maybe not.

If not, he could be fired at the end of the season— if not before.

Mike Gundy is on the hot seat.

The calls for Gundy to be fired grow louder with each and every week that goes by. And neither he nor his son are helping to improve the optics of this frustrating losing streak.

Gavin Gundy, the eldest son of Mike Gundy, blasted his father’s haters with a scathing rant on social media after the ugly loss to Oregon. He also targeted a local reporter with a nasty quip about success.

It was a bad look.

Even if he made some valid points during the tirade, Gavin needs to keep his fingers away from the keyboard and his mouth shut. That kind of outrage does not do his dad any favors.

To make matters worse, the head football coach at Oklahoma State does not seem to be locked in.

A new set of videos have emerged from Saturday’s loss that do not reflect well on Gundy’s mindset. They were either filmed before the game after warmups, prior to halftime, or after the final whistle.

A group of Oregon fans made a quip about Gundy’s legendary “I’m A Man!” press conference as he walked with his players back to the visitor’s locker room. The quip caught his attention.

He went over to the Ducks fans and took a selfie with them.

This was either before a blowout loss, during a blowout loss, or after a blowout loss.

The timeline does not matter. This should not happen!

Cowboys fans already want Mike Gundy fired. For him to go out of his way to take a photo with an opposing fanbase while already in the stadium for a top-five matchup is not going to help his case.

Even if it was mostly harmless, it does not reflect well on how he is approaching his preparation.
