Mike Gundy was fired as the head coach at Oklahoma State on Sept. 23, 2025. It took him almost two months to the day to break his silence, but it had nothing to do with college football or his career.
The 58-year-old has yet to release a formal statement.
However, the currently unemployed (and likely retired) college football coach finally popped up on social media prior to a huge club hockey game this weekend. Gundy still loves the Cowboys!
Mike Gundy was still is Oklahoma State.
There may not be anyone in modern history whose name is more synonymous with Oklahoma State University than Mike Gundy. Some Cowboys fans will T. Boone Pickens, Barry Sanders or Garth Brooks, but Brooks refuses to play in Stillwater so he’s out, Sanders does not truly register with anyone born in 1995 or later, and Pickens is not a household name.
When most people think Oklahoma State, they think Mike Gundy. Period.
He played quarterback for the Pokes in two of their three most successful seasons before the turn of the millennium and coached the Pokes during their most successful seasons after the turn of the millennium. He won 170 games from 2005-2025. Yes, things soured at the end, but HE’S A MAN, HE’S FOURTY!
Go out and support the hockey team!
We have not heard from Gundy, publicly, since he was fired by his alma mater at the end of September.
Gavin Gundy, the eldest son of Mike, immediately posted about the ouster on Instagram on the same day it was announced. His father has yet to do so.
That’s fine. He does not owe anything to anyone. James Franklin has not “thanked” Penn State either, or whatever you want to call it. People can interpret the silence however they so choose.
With that being said, it was very funny to see Mike Gundy pop up for the first time in nearly two months out of absolutely nowhere to promote the upcoming club college hockey game between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Especially because of what he was wearing while he filmed the video.
We have not heard a peep from Gundy since Sept. 23. And then… Pokes hockey!
I cannot say for certain but I think he was paid through Cameo to make this video. Either way, it is so funny for this to be how Mike Gundy broke his silence. You really can’t ask for better.
