At 65-44, the Milwaukee Brewers currently hold the best record in baseball. That record, along with his NL Manager of the Year award from a year ago, would tend to indicate that manager Pat Murphy is pretty good at his job.
Murphy, 66, is a baseball lifer who didn’t get his first opportunity to manage in the big leagues until last season when former Brewers manager Craig Counsell left the team for the Chicago Cubs.
But Murphy has stepped in seamlessly, connecting with his players and helping turning the Brewers into a genuine World Series contender.
So, what’s his secret?
Brewers Manager Pat Murphy Has Some Absolutely Disgusting Eating Habits
Murphy is a unique character. Perhaps even more unique than we first thought.
During an in-game interview while the Brewers were taking on the Washington Nationals on Friday night, he told Apple TV reporter Tricia Whitaker that he often gets hungry during games. Whitaker asked Murphy what he likes to eat, prompting Murphy to tell her that he keeps pancakes in the pockets of his baseball pants to eat during games.
Murphy then pulled out said pancake and took a bite, offering Whitaker one as well. But it only gets weirder from there.

After the game, members of the media had further questions about Murphy’s in-game eating habits.
Murphy told reporters that he also likes to keep cold pizza – preferably with sausage – around for games, either in his baseball pants pocket or in the pocket of his hoodie. But it’s how he acquires said pizza that is truly disturbing.
“I usually get ’em out in the hotel when you walk down the (hallway),” Murphy said. “People keep pizza boxes outside. They always leave some slices.”
SIR. One, that is theft. Two, that is TRIFLING.
Listen, I get it. Pat Murphy played four years of minor league ball and two years of independent league ball. Neither of those pays well, so food it food. But Murphy is currently signed to a three-year, multi-million dollar contract!
You could easily just have the ballpark kitchen staff make you a pizza and bring it to the dugout!
Maybe it’s the thrill of it all? Maybe it’s just superstition, given the Brewers’ record under Murphy. But that is downright disgusting.
