Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick held his introductory press conference with the New York media after being traded to the Jets earlier this week. Fitzpatrick, however, had the facial expression of a man in mourning, not celebration, though.

At the start of free agency, the New York Jets acquired Minkah Fitzpatrick in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, sending the five-time Pro Bowler to the Big Apple in exchange for a 7th round pick in this spring’s NFL Draft.

Following the trade, Fitzpatrick signed a three-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fitzpatrick was drafted by the Dolphins out of the University of Alabama with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons with the Dolphins before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent 2019 to 2024 and was name to three All-Pro first team, before returning to Miami last season.

In addition to Fitzpatrick, the Jets have brought in numerous new players on the defensive side of the ball, such as Nahshon Wright, Dane Belton, David Onyemata, Demario Davis, Kingsley Enagbare, Joseph Ossai, and T’Vondre Sweat.

Their most notable move of the offseason, however, was trading for quarterback Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders, whom the team originally drafted out of West Virginia University in the 2nd round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
