Minor League Baseball remains undefeated when it comes to clever stunts. Case in point: the Wisconsin Dive Bars.
Briefly changing a team’s name, giving it an alternate identity, has risen in popularity in recent years. The Lake Country DockHounds in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin know their core audience well and will rebrand themselves as the Wisconsin Dive Bars for a stint this Summer.
Lake Country DockHounds MiLB Team Changing Name To ‘Wisconsin Dive Bars’
As is common with MiLB alternate identity switches, the Lake Country DockHounds will only rebrand to the ‘Wisconsin Dive Bars’ for a limited time. They will roll out the new look from July 7-9.
Why ‘Dive Bars’? Well, dive bars are part of the DNA of Wisconsin. And to be fair, nearly everywhere in the United States appreciates and embraces a quality dive bar but in The Cheese State dive bars are a way of life.
In a release about the rebrand, the team wrote “In Wisconsin, dive bars aren’t just places you stop for a drink — they’re part of who we are. They’re where stories get told, friendships are made, pull tabs are pulled, and neon lights glow a little brighter after a long day. From small-town corners to lake country staples, dive bars have helped shape the culture that makes our state one-of-a-kind.”
How’s the merch?
I’m glad you asked! For the 3-game stint in July, the Wisconsin Dive Bars will roll out new hats, jerseys, and t-shirts. All of them are available for pre-order on the team’s website.
My favorite inclusion in the drop is the shout out to Pull Tabs, a regional gambling game that every legitimate dive bar in Wisconsin has locked and loaded.

There will be a hoodie release as well:

It is hard to fathom a world where these don’t sell out within minutes. But they are available for pre-order so maybe they’ll be able to get enough stock to meet demand:

In their announcement, the team shared this photograph of the jersey the players presumably will wear. The jersey is not available for pre-order but that does not necessarily mean it won’t be available for purchase as we get closer to July:

For anyone that thinks this rebrand is not genuine, you are wrong. The team addressed the underlying reason for choosing ‘Wisconsin Dive Bars’ as their alternate identity in the press release. They said “this alternate identity is a celebration of the local establishments that have long served as gathering places for communities across Wisconsin. The neighborhood bars that sponsor teams, host watch parties, support charities, and give friends and families a place to come together year-round.”
