Mississippi police have denied Lane Kiffin’s claims that Ole Miss fans tried to run him off the road.

During his introductory press conference at LSU this week, Kiffin claimed that he was shaken up after Ole Miss fans tried to run him off the road while he was traveling to the airport to leave Oxford, Mississippi.

“I think that people get really upset when you leave somewhere because they feel hurt because you’re doing a really good job,” Kiffin said. “They ain’t going to the airport and driving from all over to say those things and yell those things and try to run you off the road if you were doing bad.”

Mississippi Department of Public Safety has now publicly refuted Kiffin’s claims.

“There’s been no incidents where our highway patrol state troopers were involved in any sort of accident trying to run Coach Kiffin off the road.”

Bailey Holloway, a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, told Mississippi Today that Kiffin had a safety escort from the Mississippi Highway Patrol when he traveled to the airport. The agency’s officers have no record of an automobile trying to push the football coach’s car off the roadway, Holloway added.

Breck Jones, the public information officer for the Oxford Police Department, also said that the local police department received no calls or complaints about the alleged incident, and they have not been asked by anyone to look into it.

Neither LSU or Kiffin have responded to media requests regarding his comments about being run off the road by Ole Miss fans.
