A Michigan baseball player that went viral for pretending to “snort” the third baseline chalk has apologized. Mitch Voit made social media waves with his wild celebration after knocking an RBI triple vs. USC over the weekend.

He caught immediate backlash for mimicking the illicit act. The infielder posted a message on the topic to his online outlets Monday.

The celebration came in a Sunday matchup against the Trojans in Ann Arbor. After dropping the first two games of the series, the Wolverines looked to salvage the set.

They’d do so and more with an 11-0 blowout. Voit played a major role in the victory.

The second baseman went 3-for-3 at the dish with four RBIs. He also scored three runs and boosted his batting average to .451 on the year.

His biggest hit of the game came in the second frame. He stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded. He quickly emptied them with a triple. Mitch Voit then celebrated by pretending to snort the base line.

The act immediately began trending on social media. After seeing the attention, Voit offered an apology.

Mitch Voit appears to have learned from his mistake. He owned his actions after the fact.

Now, he’ll turn the attention back to the baseball diamond with the Wolverines gearing up for a weekend series against Purdue. Voit was named Big Ten Player of the Week for his efforts against the Trojans, which included hitting .667 with five doubles and 12 RBIs.

He’ll hope to replicate that production against the Boilermakers in Michigan’s upcoming set.
