The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets are battling it out in the season’s final series, hoping to secure a spot in the MLB Playoffs. The league offered a hilarious suggestion surrounding champagne celebrations when the winning team clinches.

Hurricane Helene caused a postponement, leading to a doubleheader on the season’s final day. One team, however, will know its playoff fate after Game 1.

Typically, we’d see a postgame party in the locker room as players partake in celebratory boozing once that playoff bid is secured.

That won’t be the case on Monday! At least not immediately.

The MLB has advised against a celebration following the first game. They don’t want players to be drunk for Game 2!

Hours after clinching the playoff spot, one team will have to get back on the field for the final outing of the year. Despite knowing its postseason fate, that squad will have to regroup to play the latter half of a doubleheader.

Instead of an immediate celebration, postgame festivities will have to wait until after Game 2. Not only does it delay the party for the winner of Game 1, but it might offer a scenario where both teams can celebrate together in the event of a doubleheader split!

The history between the Mets and Braves would suggest that won’t be the case. In fact, the Game 1 winner might embrace that sobriety for Game 2 as a sweep would eliminate a division rival from MLB postseason contention.

That would make the celebration all the sweeter!

As it stands, both the Braves and Mets need just one win to get in. The Diamondbacks need a sweep as each team owns a tiebreaker over Arizona.

It will be fun to see how it plays out!
