Desire Inglander, the fiancée of Mondo Duplantis, will not address her boyfriend’s world record money hack. He makes $100,000 every time the bar is raised by one centimeter in the pole vault.
While some consider it to be a bogus approach to the sport, the Louisiana-born Swede sees it more as a lucrative financial strategy.
Duplantis’ one-centimeter progression is one of the more controversial topics in track and field, and thus subject to constant conversation. Inglander chooses not to entertain the discussion.
Who is Mondo Duplantis?
Although he is only 25, Mondo Duplantis is already the greatest pole vaulter of all-time. His record speaks for itself. He won a gold medal in 20 of 23 competitions dating back to 2015, including two Olympic gold medals and five world titles — both indoor and outdoor. Nobody in history has more six-meter clearances.
There is no one else in the sport right now who can beat him. They are all competing for second place.
Duplantis comes from a family of athletes and, specifically, pole vaulters. His dad jumped. His mom was a heptathlete. Big brother Andreas represented Sweden at the World Junior Championships. Little sister Helena recently competed at the NCAA Championships for LSU.
How does he make his money?
I would venture to guess that Mondo Duplantis’ primary income comes through various sponsorships, endorsements, etc. Track and field is not a particularly lucrative sport in terms of prize money.
And yet, he found a way to make six figures almost every time he competes!
World Athletics, the governing body of track and field, pays $100,000 to any athlete that breaks a world record. Duplantis broke 12 world records over the last five+ years for a grand total of $1,200,000.
He breaks his own record by just one single centimeter at nearly every meet— from 6.17 meters to 6.28 so far. It pays!
Desire Inglander isn’t going to discuss her boyfriend’s $100,000 world record money glitch.
Mondo Duplantis finally acknowledged that he knows exactly what he is doing with the one-centimeter progression during a recent interview. He also revealed just how high he wants to go.
His (Swedish model) fiancée, however, is choosing not to discuss the topic!
Desire Inglander acts just as surprised and excited every time Duplantis breaks his own record. We love that for them. But don’t ask her to discuss the money!
