Monkey Man has solidified itself as one of the best action movies of 2024, making 34-year-old Academy Award-nominated director Dev Patel one of Hollywood’s most exciting filmmakers to watch over the coming years.

Being a great director is ultimately about being a great leader, and a great leader has the ability to delegate to those around them, which is exactly what Dev Patel did when it came to crafting the film’s incredible fight sequences.

In this exclusive clip, Patel and producer Jomon Thomas explain how stunt coordinator producer Jomon Thomas explain how French-Moroccan stunt coordinator Brahim Chab, who was living in Thailand when the film was in pre-production, essentially saved the day with his talents.

“We had this, sort of, dysfunctional stunt team because language was a huge problem, but they all spoke with their hands and legs,” Thomas explains.

Patel says he found Brahim’s work on YouTube and called him almost immediately.

“It was born from another kind of catostrophe where we couldn’t fly in our amazing stunt team because of border closures and for various reasons,” Patel says. “So, I’m on YouTube late at night and we find this guy Brahim, who is an amazing French-Moroccan stunt choreography living in Thailand with the most amazing team. His stuff was incredible.”

“And I got on the phone with Brahim, and we’re like, ‘We have a full crew here, and I need you here yesterday.’ And he came down. The script we really detailed in these sequences and Brahim just ran with those and precisely executed them.”

Alongside Patel, who both starred in and directed Monkey Man, the film stars Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Makarand Deshpande, Ashwini Kalsekar, and more.

Monkey Man is available on digital tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11!
