Montana State is going to play a home game at the FCS National Championship in Nashville on Monday. The great college football migration from Bozeman to Music City started on Wednesday.
It will continue through the weekend, with a total takeover of Lower Broadway already underway.
Chants of “GO CATS, GO!” can be heard across the city as college football fans continue to arrive. They better save their voices for the game!
The FCS National Championship will be played in Nashville.
Montana State finished the regular season at 10-2 with losses only to Oregon and South Dakota State. The Bobcats won 10-straight games to earn a first round by as the No. 2 seed in the FCS playoffs.
They defeated Yale and Stephen F. Austin to set up a rematch of the Brawl of the Wild in the semifinals.
Montana State ultimately defeated Montana for the second time this season by a final score of 48-23 to punch its ticket to the national championship. On the other side of the matchup is the Cinderella.
Unseeded Illinois State upset North Dakota State, UC Davis and Villanova to finish no worse than No. 2 in the country. Nobody saw it coming. The Redbirds got hot at the right time.
However, their incredible run is expected to come to an end on Monday. Sportsbooks list Montana State as 10.5-point favorites as of this writing.
This year’s game will take place at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, home of the Vanderbilt Commodores. It was moved out of Frisco, Texas for the first time due to stadium renovations.
Montana State fans are already taking over Broadway.
The national championship game will be played on Monday night. Bobcats fans started to arrive to Tennessee on New Year’s Eve, more than five days before kickoff.
I took a drive down to Lower Broadway on Friday night to see if the rumors of a takeover were true. They are. You cannot go more than a few feet without running into someone in blue and gold.
And here’s the thing.
Montana State has this very specific, explicit anti-Montana State chant. It is set to ‘Mony, Mony‘ by Tommy James and the Shondells, which will be the most requested song on Broadway this week. Any local Nashville performer that does not know the song is going to drive patrons to other bars. Seriously.
You could hear it coming out of Kid Rock’s bar on New Year’s Day— three days before the game.

All of the Bobcats fans who were not on Broadway swung by the Opry. Their song request was not granted.
Montana State is going to far outnumber Illinois State on Monday. The takeover is already underway. PLAY MONY, MONY!
