Mookie Betts was at the center of the most memorable moment to transpired during the 2024 World Series courtesy of a couple of Yankees fans who tried to rip a ball out of his glove. He had a fairly diplomatic response in the immediate wake of the incident, but he’s done taking the high road now that he’s gotten another chance to address the situation.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had a commanding 3-0 lead over the New York Yankees in the World Series and had the chance to put things away in Game 4, but the home team was able to keep its hopes alive with an 11-4 win that was defined by the strange scene that transpired in the bottom of the first inning.
The Dodgers had already pulled out to a 2-0 lead when Gleyber Torres led things off for the Yankees prior to hitting a foul ball that made its way toward the bleachers in foul territory in right field. Mookie Betts reached into the stands to make the catch but found himself tussling with a couple of guys who latched onto his glove in an attempt to pry the ball loose.
The two men were immediately ejected from the stadium, and while they were initially allowed to attend Game 5, the MLB stepped in to force the Yankees to ban them from returning for what ended up being the final showdown.
Betts largely downplayed what transpired after the game while opting to focus on the loss, but it would appear he was firmly biting his tongue based on what he had to say while discussing what went down with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson on the Back That Year Up 2024 special on Peacock.

Hart encouraged Betts to speak his mind, and he did exactly that after getting the chance to address the fans, saying:
“F—k you guys. Like try and get the ball, cool, but you try to grab my s—t? I was in the moment.
I thought about throwing the ball at them, and then I realized, ‘Mookie, you ain’t gonna do s—t. Go back to right field.'”
It would have been kind of hard to blame him for retaliating, but he probably made the right call there.
