Moriah Murray is the best three-point shooter in the country through the first month(ish) of the 2024-25 women’s college basketball season and she does not show signs of slowing down. Penn State’s sophomore(ish) guard makes more than she misses.

If there was to be a Caitlin Clark of 2024, based only on triples, Mo Murray would be her. You want to see her get her the ball in space!

Murray initially enrolled at Drexel out of Dunmore High School in Pennsylvania but did not play in a single game for the Dragons. She transferred up to the Big Ten halfway through her true freshman year and was forced to sit. As a sophomore, the 5-foot-8 fireballer shot 35.3% from three-point range in just 12.5 minutes per game.

Her pace has only increased with more playing time in year three! Murray — as an individual — is currently hitting more triples per game than ~25% of Division I.

Murray is averaging 18.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per outing through the first seven games. And those numbers are deceiving because of a trio of outliers!

  • Bucknell — 28 points
  • Canisius — 8 points
  • Duquesne — 26 points
  • Niagara — 17 points
  • Monmouth — 23 points
  • Marshall — 6 points
  • Georgia — 24 points
  • Drexel — 9 points

Murray takes approximately 13 shots per game (11 from deep) and hits six of them (five from deep). She went 0-5 from three against the Griffins, 2-10 against the Thundering Herd, and 1-2 against her original school. Unfortunately, an undisclosed leg injury forced her to leave Wednesday’s game early, but the Nittany Lions did escape with a victory over the Dragons in overtime.

I digress. Murray is must-see television if/when she gets back on the college basketball court!

I would consider bestowing the nickname “this year’s Caitlin Clark” upon Moriah Murray based only on her three-point shooting. However, we will never see another Caitlin Clark and Moriah Murray is a very different player. With that being said… it is still fun to compare their stats.

Murray is making 6.6 of 10.6 her three-point shots per game without those three outliers. Clark made 5.6 of her 13.6 three-point shots per game last season. Just saying!

The pace at which Mo Murray is shooting (and hitting) has been remarkable thus far. We must hope her injury is not that serious so she can keep chucking up triples at a (more or less) Caitlin Clark rate!!
