Today’s New York Mets — under the savior-like ownership of Steve Cohen, who has recused the franchise from the depths of perpetual apathy — ain’t your granddaddy’s Mets, that’s for damn sure. The team is one of the betting favorites to win the World Series after luring one of the most exciting talents in the game in Juan Soto.
There are tons of changes to the New York Mets, from the team’s expectations to the size of their owner’s wallet, and even how jacked their mascot is, Mr. Met.
A video from the Mets’ spring training game against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday showed Mr. Met and his bae Ms. Met busting out the trumpet for Edwin Diaz’s run onto the field and looking far more yolked up than in years past.

“Mr. Met has been suspended 162 games for violating the MLB’s performance enhancing drug policy, sources tell ESPN,” one baseball fan joked.
“I asked Mr. Met today about suddenly being jacked but he did not comment. Apparently he is in the best shape of his life,” a Mets beat writer for Newsday Sports wrote.
Mr. Met first debuted as a cartoon in 1963 and was introduced at Mets games in 1964, making the character the first Major League Baseball mascot to appear in “human form” (that’s hilariously how it’s described on the Wikipedia page).
The mascot has had a handful of viral moments over the years, from flipping of Mets fans during the dark days of the Wilpon’s ownership a few years ago to having his girl Ms. Met stolen by Big Papi.
The Mets will begin their 2025 season on March 27 with an Opening Day matchup against the Houston Astros before their highly-anticipated home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 4.
