Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett made NFL history on Sunday, breaking the league record for the most sacks in a single season and surpassing T.J. Watt (2021) and Michael Strahan (2001) in doing so. Though it is important to note that Strahan did it in 16-game season whereas Myles Garrett broke his record in a 17th regular season game, but that doesn’t change the impressiveness of the record at all IMHO.

Following Myles Garrett making NFL history and setting the new sacks record, his former Cleveland Browns teammate, fullback Johnny Stanton, shared the story of teaching Myles to play Dungeons & Dragons.

How Myles Garrett Learned To Play Dungeons & Dragons

Johnny Stanton IV was with the Cleveland Browns in 2020-21. On Instagram, the former NFL fullback describes himself as “Your Favorite’s Nerd’s Favorite Athlete.”

That actually tells us quite a bit without saying much. It signals that he is an athlete of substance, has a nerdy side, and enough of an accomplished background that nerds who tend to do a lot of research are into his content which lends credence to him as a creator. Aka, there is no reason to question the legitimacy of his story because he walked the walk.

So after Myles Garrett broke the NFL single season sacks record, Johnny Stanton IV shared the story of teaching him to play Dungeons & Dragons. It all started with the ‘new guy’ (Standon) seeing Garrett wearing a Stranger Things t-shirt around the locker room.

This was a ‘real recognize real’ situation and Stanton approached Myles Garrett about playing Dungeons & Dragons. He asked Myles if he’d played before, he hadn’t. And if he wanted to try playing, he did. From there, the rest was history. Check it out (video here if it’s not loading):

So if you are wondering how the NFL single season sacks record holder unwinds when he’s not training the answer is Role Playing Games.

How To Play Dungeons & Dragons

While Dungeons & Dragons is one of the most popular Role Playing Games (RPGs) ever created I’d wager a guess that the vast majority of people on planet earth have still never played it. For some, it is because RPGs simply do not interest them. And for others like myself, it is because the opportunity never presented itself and/or I had no idea where to begin.

Enter Deborah Ann Woll from True Blood.

A clip of Deborah Ann Woll and Jon Bernthal goes viral on TikTok and Instagram every couple of months. In the clip, Deborah who is an accomplished ‘dungeon master’ and creator of D&D story lines teaches Bernthal how to play Dungeons & Dragons in real time. If you have never played D&D this clip will change the way you think about it forever:

Now the only question left is how we set up a D&D game with Myles Garrett and get ourselves invited.
