Spire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar has quickly made a name for himself this season in the NASCAR Cup Series for both good and bad reasons. The latest reason, however, had Hocevar walking back previous comments he made about the series racing in Mexico City on Sunday.

Hocevar, who has impressed on track but rubbed his fellow drivers the wrong way on several occasions, wasn’t super excited about racing south of the border.

“This whole experience, if the travel was better, if getting here was easier, if you felt safer getting to and from everywhere, if it wasn’t such a s—hole, if the track limits were a little bit better enforced, if it was going to be a little bit better or a race and it wasn’t so easy… or feel so lockdown like you can’t leave anywhere, it would be a great experience.  he said on a Twitch stream. “It would be an absolute great experience. If you take all those out, it’s unbelievable. It’s great.”

NASCAR Driver Carson Hocevar Apologizes For Comments About ‘S—hole’ Mexico City

Hocevar went on to finish 34th and yet again ran into rival Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who told Hocevar afterward that he was going to kick his a–. Coincidentally, Stenhouse Jr.’s spotted Tab Boyd expressed similar views. But dozens of drivers and team members pushed back, stating how much they enjoyed their time in Mexico City.

And now even Hocevar has made an about-face.

“Maybe a kid that had never been out of the country until Thursday should (n)ever give an opinion about what any place is like other than Portage, Michigan,” Hocevar posted on X . “When I answered that question on a stream, I was skeptical about the trip so far and believed everything I read or heard about Mexico City from people who more than likely also had never been here.

Now that I’ve actually left my hotel a couple times and raced here in front of some of the most passionate fans I’ve ever seen, my opinion has changed. I am embarrassed by my comments, by the race I ran, and I may have to move here to hide out from Ricky anyway.

At least he seemingly learned something. Although maybe don’t call a country you know nothing about a ‘s—hole’ to begin with. Either way, it’s a learning experience, and at least Hocevar owned up to his ignorance.
