Bubba Wallace won his fourth career NASCAR Cup Series race at Sunday’s Brickyard 400, despite one fan in the stands going to extreme lengths to try to stop it from happening.
Wallace had to battle through a late rain delay and not one, but two overtime restarts against superstar Kyle Larson in order to pick up the victory. But after getting ahead of Larson on the final restart, Wallace had to clear one final hurdle before taking the checkered flag.

While coming to take the white flag, which signifies one lap to go in the race, a fan in the stands appears to have thrown a full beer can onto the track. The can bounced off the track, breaking open before Wallace and Larson just barely avoided running over it.
Had Wallace or Larson hit the can, it very well could have cut down a tire and changed the outcome of the race completely. Instead, the drivers all managed to avoid the can, and Wallace crossed the finish line safely to pick up a win and a spot in the series playoffs.
The victory was the first in 100 races for Wallace, who competes for Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing team. Afterward, he received a phone call from the NBA legend to congratulate him on his victory.
“He was just so proud,” Wallace told the TNT post-race broadcast crew when asked what Jordan told him. “I said ‘I wish you were here for it.’ He was like, he’s going to have a drink or two for me tonight. So we’ll be celebrating together in spirit.”

According to the pictures Wallace posted on his X account on Monday morning, he more than lived up to his end of the agreement.
