NASCAR driver Joey Gase found himself hit with a $5,000 fine after throwing his bumper at another car in a moment of rage during a recent race, but it looks like he’s going to make it back (and then some) courtesy of a new sponsor who didn’t pass up an incredibly organic opportunity.

On March 30, the NASCAR Infinity Series headed to Richmond Raceway for the ToyotaCare 250, a showdown where the caution flag was deployed on six occasions. The last yellow of the day came courtesy of Joey Gase, who saw his race end prematurely when he got spun into the wall after getting bumped by Dawson Cram during the 173rd lap.

Gase was obviously less than thrilled with that development and decided to take out his frustrations on the driver he felt was responsible for the wreck by ripping off the rear bumper that was clinging to his car before chucking it at Cram’s windshield during a subsequent pass.

Officials who reviewed that incident correctly ruled Gase was not allowed to do that and hit him with a $5,000 fine. However, the move also caught the attention of a Michigan-based company called Bumpers That Deliver, which realized it had stumbled on a goldmine of corporate synergy.

According to The Drive, Bumpers That Deliver—which prides itself on offering the “widest range of painted-to-match bumpers, fenders, and tailgates” to its customers—reached out to Gase to secure an ad spot on his No. 53 car. The company issued a statement to explain that decision, saying:

“Joey Gase’s intense racing passion mirrors our dedication to delivering top-notch bumpers “His unique bumper delivery last week showcases why we’re thrilled to back Joey Gase Racing.”

The 31-year-old driver’s Ford Mustang will also be getting an overhaul when he and the team head up to Michigan International Speedway for the Cabo Wabo 250 on August 5th, as Bumpers That Deliver will be the team’s primary sponsor for the race.

Well played.
