NBA Botches Combine Measurements For Top Prospect Stephon Castle Causing Panic

UConn Huskies guard Stephon Castle is one of the top prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Jonathan Wasserman’s latest mock draft projected Castle to go No. 6 overall to the Charlotte Hornets.

But that nearly came crashing down on Monday when Castle reportedly measured in at just 6’2.25″ at the NBA Draft Combine.

That’s a marked difference from the 6-foot-6 height that UConn listed Castle as on its official roster. Normally players lose an inch or so of heigh without shoes.

But not four inches.

Surely that can’t be correct…right? Well, as it turns out, it wasn’t.

In fact, the height measurement mistake was easily verifiable by one of Castle’s UConn teammates who also attended the combine.

Castle’s size is a big part of what makes him an extremely intriguing prospect.

“He’ll likely start his career operating as a Josh Hart-like Swiss Army knife-type who’ll move the ball, drive, make hustle plays and lock down defensively,” Wasserman said in his evaluation. “But he played more point guard in high school, and he was used in plenty of ball screens at Connecticut. There is some enticing on-ball upside with his size and strength, particularly if he can improve his pull-up.”

The Big East Freshman of the Year averaged 11.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game this season for the national championship-winning Huskies.

Though if he were 6’2 rather than 6’5, his stock would likely tumble down the draft board. As it turns out, measurements were off across the board according to NBA Draft reporter Michael Visenberg.

What appears to have happened is that somebody entered the measurements for Providence guard Devin Carter into the spot for Stephon Castle. Which makes sense considering they’d be listed next to one another alphabetically.

Crisis averted.

But we’re sure that was a briefly harrowing moment for Castle and any NBA fans who wanted to see him drafted highly.
