College football is the best sport in the world, not because of excellent execution of play, but because hilarious things happen every week. And, Nebraska’s first touchdown of the 2023 season in their game against Minnesota Thursday night was truly funny.
In classic Big Ten fashion, Nebraska was trailing Minnesota 3-0 at the half in coach Matt Rhule’s debut. They should’ve led 7-3, but after a run to the one-yard line with 11 seconds left in the first half, they took a false start and then Jeff Sims threw this truly awful interception.

No worries. Nebraska got the ball coming out of half and scored on this hilarious trick play that went very wrong until it went very, very right.

And, if you’re confused as to why that was legal, the ball was thrown backwards, even though it was muffed forwards. Perfectly fine.
Twitter was full of reactions.
The first touchdown of the Matt Rhule era could not have been more Nebraska https://t.co/tt9PbhzmSw

Horrible execution meets even worse defense and we have Nebraska’s first points of the year lol

I'm just gonna say it. This is the best move off the dribble in Nebraska history https://t.co/GYhJC2cEai

It’s the first of many dumb touchdowns in college football this year.
