Dylan Raiola and his college football teammates did not fare well during a highly-competitive volleyball match against their fellow student-athletes at Nebraska. Harper Murray humbled him.
This is the second year in a row with the same outcome!
I personally would love to see more of these cross-sport competitions on different college campuses all across the country. It would be so much fun to watch college football players compete against the top swimmers, softball players, swimmers, rowers, hoopers etc. in their respective sports.
Nebraska volleyball is a powerhouse.
The Cornhuskers consistently compete for a national championship in women’s volleyball. They have not missed the NCAA Tournament since… well… ever. Nebraska made the postseason every single year since 1975 without fail. It rarely fails to make it out of the first two rounds.
In fact, the Huskers reached the NCAA Tournament semifinal seven times in the last decade with two national titles and two second-place finishes. Anything short of a national championship is dissapointing.
At the forefront of Nebraska’s success in recent years is Harper Murray. The superstar outside hitter arrived to Lincoln as the Gatorade National Player of the Year and the No. 1 overall recruit.
She was named as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2023. She led the team in kills as a sophomore.
Murray is just as popular off of the court as on. The rising junior boasts more than half a million followers on TikTok and 225,000 followers on Instagram.
Harper Murray vs. Dylan Raiola
Student-athletes who compete in a fall sport are already back on campus for summer workouts. They have nothing to do when they aren’t in the gym or the classroom.
Harper Murray decided to start a new offseason tradition with all of the downtime last season. She and her teammates went head-to-head with a group of football players. It was an impressive showing from the latter.
This year’s competition was completely lopsided. According to Murray, the football team did not win and it “wasn’t even close.” Starting quarterback Dylan Raiola and his teammates got a few balls down but they could not keep pace with some of the best volleyball players in the world.
All things considered, it could’ve been much worse. However, Murray’s ace serve on Raiola is an image we should not soon forget. She put him in his place. He did not stand a chance!
