There isn’t a single player in women’s golf who can currently come close to matching the excellence of Nelly Korda this year, but she’s suffered a setback ahead of a tournament in England she was forced to withdraw from after being bitten by a dog.

Nelly Korda has spent 26 straight weeks at the top of the Women’s World Golf Rankings thanks to the stellar play that’s cemented her as the most dominant player the LPGA currently has to offer.

The 25-year-old superstar secured her first win of the season at the Drive On Championship in January, and her triumph at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship in March marked the start of a streak of five consecutive victories that came to an end when she secured the second major her career by two strokes at the Chevron Championship in April.

A few weeks later, Korda was able to notch her sixth win in less than four months by topping the field at the Mizuho Americas Open.

She’s missed the cut three times in a row since then, but the golfer who’s raked in close to $3 million in earnings since the start of 2024 had the chance to bounce back while defending her title at the Ladies European Tour tournament that’s set to kick off at The Centurion Club outside of London on July 3rd.

However, according to the statement Korda posted on Instagram on Friday, things took an unfortunate turn last weekend when she was bitten by a dog and injured to the point where she won’t be able to compete, saying:

I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London. On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully.

I apologize to the LET, the sponsors, and my fans for my absence. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to returning to the course soon.

There’s currently no clear timeline for her return, but here’s to hoping she undergoes a speedy recovery.
