Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Starting 5, the upcoming docuseries that will follow the in-season lives of five NBA stars.

In addition to the release of the trailer, Netflix and the NBA also confirmed which five players the docuseries will follow this year: Jimmy Butler (Miami Heat), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Domantas Sabonis (Sacramento Kings), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), and LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers).

According to Netflix, Starting 5 will premiere on Wednesday, October 9, which coincides with the start of NBA training camps.

While getting LeBron on board is obviously a coup for Netflix and the NBA, the additions of the eccentric Jimmy Butler and the up-and-coming combination of talent and personality that is Anthony Edwards are also massive gets for the docuseries.

Starting Five is just the latest day-in-the-life docuseries focusing on a specific sport and league that Netflix has released in recent years, joining the likes of Drive to Survive (Formula 1), Break Point (tennis), Quarterback (NFL), Full Swing (golf), Receiver (NFL), Sprint (track), Full Speed (NASCAR), and an upcoming docuseries that will track the Boston Red Sox current 2024 season.

The 2024-25 NBA season — which is already making headlines for likely being the final season of Inside The NBA — will tip off on October 22.

Heading into the 2024-25 campaign, the Boston Celtics are currently the betting favorites to repeat as NBA champions after the franchise won its 18th NBA title last year. Other expected contenders, at least as far as betting odds are concerned, as the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunders, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks.
