College football bettors in the state of New Jersey got some bad news today.
As we approach the most important weekend of Bowl Season, bettors learned that they would not be able to bet on one upcoming bowl game.
Purdue and LSU are set to meet in the Citrus Bowl on Monday and the Boilermakers are going to have a future NFL Hall of Famer joining them on the sidelines for the game.
It was recently announced that Drew Brees would be joining their staff as an interim assistant. Unfortunately, it appears that hire has led New Jersey regulators to halt betting on the game because of Press’ relationship with PointsBet Sportsbook.
New Jersey gaming regulators on Friday ordered the sportsbooks to halt betting on the Citrus Bowl between Purdue and LSU, because “an individual associated with Purdue Football team” is in violation of state regulations.

In the notice, NJDGE did not name the individual associated with Purdue but stated they were in violation statute 5:12A-11 (f), which prohibits athletes, coaches, referees or director of a sports governing body from having “any ownership interest in, control of, or otherwise be employed by an operator.
PointsBet had actually already terminated their relationship with Brees because he took the coaching job.
Brees’ relationship with PointsBet was in the headlines earlier this year because of an ill-advised commercial that led fans to believe Brees had been struck by lightning.

Luckily for the rest of the country, they’ll still be able to bet on this game during the last full slate of bowl games for the season, but it looks like New Jersey bettors may need to find action elsewhere for Monday’s bowl games.
