New Mexico H.S. Baseball Player Hit With Criminal Charges For Allegedly Peeing In Opposing Team’s Water Cooler

No athlete expects a warm welcome when they head into enemy territory for a game as the visiting team. However, some high school baseball players in New Mexico got an especially hostile reception courtesy of a rival who’s been charged with peeing in their water cooler before a game.

I don’t know if there’s a single person on the planet who can look back at their high school experience without thinking, “Wow, I did some really stupid stuff back in the day,” as making some incredibly regrettable decisions as a teenager is essentially a right of passage for every single human being.

There are plenty of actions that fall under that particular umbrella that can be ultimately chalked up to the ignorance of youth and simply not knowing any better. With that said, that defense falls apart when it involves the kind of act that even a preschooler would know is something you’re never supposed to do.

According to the Rio Ranch Observer, a member of the junior varsity baseball team at Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico is facing 15 counts of battery after he was charged with the vile violation police say occurred when his squad hosted  La Cueva High School for a game on March 25th.

It was pretty clear something was amiss when Rio Rancho announced every member of the J.V. team had been suspended last week, and on Friday, we got some insight into that decision after the town’s police department announced it had charged an unidentified 16-year-old player with urinating in the water cooler in the visiting team’s dugout ahead of the showdown.

While the player is innocent until proven guilty, La Cueva principal David Garcia sent out a letter on Monday where he asserted the player in question “admitted to urinating in the jug” while encouraging the families who received it to consult with a doctor if they believed their child drank the tainted water (if you’re curious, drinking a small amount of urine probably isn’t going to kill you, but it’s generally not advised even if you want to do so willingly).

The New Mexico Activities Association is working in conjunction with Rio Rancho as an investigation into the incident continues to unfold, with a representative for the latter saying “discipline for all those involved will be severe.”

I would certainly hope so.
