The New York Jets are an absolute dumpster fire, as they’ve essentially cleaned house of every coach EXCEPT the one responsible for hiring them in the first place: head coach Aaron Glenn. And based on the responses they’ve gotten from potential candidates thus far, it appears that Gang Green is going to have a tough time filling these roles, too.
Thus far, after his disastrous first season in New York, the Jets have fired the following coaches from Aaron Glenn’s staff: Steve Wilks (defensive coordinator), Tanner Engstrand (offensive coordinator), Charles London (quarterbacks coach), Scott Turner (pass game coordinator), Eric Washington (defensive line coach), Aaron Curry (linebackers coach), Roosevelt Williams (defensive assistant), Alonso Escalante (defensive assistant), and Dre Bly (assistant defensive backs coach).
The New York Jets reached out to Barstool Sports personality and former Super Bowl winner Jon Gruden about joining Aaron Glenn’s staff, Gruden said no
Now having to replace virtually their entire staff, the Jets are evidently casting a wide net. According to The Athletic‘s Jets beat reporter Zack Rosenblatt, while the Jets reached out to the former Super Bowl winning head coach Jon Gruden about joining Aaron Glenn’s staff, the Barstool Sports personality was not interested.
Just to put into context how desperate of a move it is to reach out to Gruden: this is a coach who hasn’t been in the league since 2021 and hasn’t a winning season in the NFL since 2008 (when he went 9-7 with the Tampa Bay Bucs). Since 2024, he’s been a member of the sports media brand Barstool Sports.
The last time he was in the NFL as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, he resigned in disgrace after a trove of his racist, misogynistic, and homophobic emails were made public.
