New York Jets GM Candidate Had Brutally Bad Suggestion For 2021 NFL Draft

The New York Jets are on the hunt for a new general manager after cutting ties with previous GM Joe Douglas earlier this season. New York has already interveiwed several candidates, including for Titans GM Jon Robinson and current ESPN employee Louis Riddick.

On Thursday, however, they conducted another interview. This one was with current Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, who has an extensive history as an NFL scout. Nagy was recently in the news after he suggested the College Football Playoff account NFL talent on rosters.

But somehow, that is not the most egregious of Nagy’s takes to surface following the New York Jets interview. Instead, that comes from a tweet all the way back in 2020.

The tweet in question involved Nagy replying to a question: which then-college player (not including quarterbacks) would fans build their NFL team around. The options were Oregon offensive lineman Penei Sewell, Penn State edge rusher Micah Parsons, LSU defensive back Derrick Stingley Jr. or LSU wide receiver Ja’marr Chase.

Nagy, however, went a different route. He went off the board and selected North Dakota State offensive lineman Dillon Radunz.

Fast forward nearly a year an Chase went  went No. 5 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft to the Cincinnati Bengals. Sewell went 7th to the Detroit Lions, and Parsons went at pick 12 to the Dallas Cowboys. Stingley Jr., just a sophomore at the time, went No. 3 overall to the Houston Texans in the 2022 NFL Draft. All four players have developed into superstars and franchise cornerstones for their respective teams.

Radunz, meanwhile, has struggled. He went in the second round, No. 53 overall, to the Tennessee Titans in the 2021 draft. He’s since played in 44 games, starting 21. This seaosn, he has a PFF grade of just 57.2, which ranks 83rd of 128 eligible guards.

Look,  we all miss on projections. But Nagy sees more college football than almost anybody on the planet. If anyone should know, it should be him. And yet he didn’t just miss. He missed glaringly.

That is the man the New York Jets think is a viable general manager candidate…good luck, Jets fans.
