Just how long has it been since the New York Jets qualified for the playoffs? They haven’t done it since the release of the Nintendo 3DS — that’s how long. The Nintendo 3DS was launched in the United States on February 26, 2011.
The Nintendo 3DS is considered to be an “eigth generation video game console” alongside the likes of the Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. As a handheld video gaming deiceo, the Nintendo 3DS’ primary competitor was the PlayStation Vita.
Back in 2011, Rex Ryan — whose spent recent publicly lobbying to be re-hired by the organization — was the head coach and quarterback Mark Sanchez had just concluded his second (and ultimately best) year with the team. The Jets’ last playoff game was on Sunday, January 23, 2011.
In addition to the release of the Nintendo 3DS being the most recent Nintendo console, further context for just how long it’s been includes the fact that Barack Obama hadn’t even been elected for his second term as President and the iPhone 4 was the latest model released by Apple that year.

In that 24-19 loss to Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers, the Jets, who went 11-5 that season, were powered by Mark Sanchez, LaDainian Tomlinson/Shonn Greene in the backfield, and wide receivers Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards.
Sanchez completed 20 of 33 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns, while the Jets defense — boasting the likes of Darrelle Revis, Bart Scott, David Harris, Antonio Cromartie, Calvin Pace, and Jason Taylor — dominated Big Ben, who completed just 10 of 19 passes for 133 yards and two interceptions.
Heading into the 2024 season, the Jets were not only hoping Aaron Rodgers would help the franchise break that 13-year-long (soon to be 14) postseason drought but were harboring Super Bowl expectations.
As we now know, the Aaron Rodgers experiment has turned out to be a disaster, as the team sits at 3-9 and has fired both their head coach and general manager while Rodgers gears up for the release of his Netflix documentary series Enigma.
