With the MLB in the midst of a lockout, free agent negotiations have stalled. However, that hasn’t stopped the New York Yankees from becoming a real option for one star free agent.
The Yankees are expected to take a run at Freddie Freeman, who they love. Though 1B isn’t their real need, they’d love to fit one of the game’s best lefty hitters into their lineup. With the Braves not quickly wrapping up their star, all are options are on the table for Freeman.

This report likely comes as a big surprise to Atlanta Braves fans. It seemed like a sure thing they’d be able to come to an agreement to bring back one of the stars of their World Series winning roster.
Unfortunately, negotiations have taken longer than expected and that has opened the door for other teams to try and poach the star first baseman.
For the New York Yankees, this is exactly the type of move that fans have come to expect from them. They’ve built up their organization around star acquisitions. Adding Freeman to their roster would give the left-handed bat the top of their order has been missing and would make it even more terrifying for pitchers to face that lineup.
However, it’s not necessarily a move they need to make. They have other options at first base, including Luke Voit, who they’ve already tendered, or re-signing Anthony Rizzo after trading for him at last year’s trade deadline.
Wherever Freeman does wind up next season, the World Series winning first baseman is going to continue to be a huge difference maker.
