Seven years ago to the day, the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. tragically took place. Today, exactly 2,556 days later and with the community still healing, Newtown High School’s football team won the state championship in stunning fashion.
Newtown was tied with Darien High School 7-7 with 3.3 seconds left on the clock with the Class LL state title on the line. Newtown quarterback Jack Street found Riley Ward with a 36-yard, perfect pass in the corner of the end zone to give Newtown its first state title in over 25 years.
Again, this magical moment happened exactly seven years ago to the day of the Sandy Hook shooting that took place in this team’s town; as you can imagine, the emotion and the celebration was one of epic proportions.

Talk about an absolutely magical moment to cap-off a perfect 13-0 season.
Newtown is a small community and while it may have four elementary schools, there is only one high school in town. Many of Newtown students likely went to Sandy Hook and have had to live through the horrific moment that happened seven years ago.
Congratulations to these kids, these kid’s parents and family, parents and family of the victims at Sandy Hook and Newtown as an entire community, you all enjoy this one.
