Two of the NFL’s most famously moribund franchises are going to be facing off in this season’s Super Bowl, according to one NFL analyst.

In a recent piece previewing the NFL’s upcoming schedule release, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report predicted that the New York Jets will face off against the Detroit Lions in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

“In Mike Williams and Garrett Wilson, Rodgers has a quality duo of receivers. Breece Hall is an electrifying young running back. The offensive line looks markedly better on paper than it was in 2023. And New York’s defense was third in the NFL last year and added an elite edge-rusher in Haason Reddick,” Davenport explained in Bleacher Report.

Unfortunately for long-tortured Jets fans, however, despite the presence of Aaron Rodgers, Davenport believes that the Lions will be the team to wall away victorious.

“A team that has never been to a Super Bowl — let alone won one — is going to stand at the Superdome as confetti rains down at the conclusion of Super Bowl LIX.”

Heading into the 2024 season, the Detroit Lions are one of the Top 5 betting favorites to win the Super Bowl with odds of +1300, which trails only the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens.

The Jets, however, are much bigger longshots as they’re currently the 13th betting favorite with odds of +2700, trailing teams such as the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins — none of which are presently viewed as serious Super Bowl contenders.

Aaron Rodgers and Gang Green are certainly going to find out whether or not they’re actually Super Bowl contenders as it was announced on Tuesday, May 14 that they will be opening the 2024 season with a road matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in the first Monday Night Football game of the season.
