Moreau’s cancer diagnosis came to light during a routine physical examination conducted by the Saints’ team doctors earlier this year.
Recognizing concerning signs, they referred him for further testing, ultimately leading to the diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Despite the initial setback of failing his physical, Moreau’s prognosis was optimistic enough that the Saints decided to sign him to a three-year, $12 million contract, with $8 million guaranteed, in May.
Prior to joining the Saints, Moreau spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders. During his time with the Raiders last season, he showcased his skills as a tight end, catching 33 out of 54 targets for 420 yards. He also scored 12 a career touchdowns.
Now, with a fresh start in New Orleans, Moreau is expected to bring his talents to the Saints’ offense, adding another weapon to their arsenal.
Under the leadership of former Raiders teammate Derek Carr, who is now the quarterback for the Saints, Moreau is poised to make an impact on the field.
Despite his battle with cancer, Moreau participated in offseason practices with the team and remains determined to play this season.
