During this NFL offseason, we have once again seen the league’s quarterback market redefined.
Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson signed contract that make them the two highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL on a per-year basis.
Jackson’s deal also included the biggest signing bonus in NFL history and the 2nd most guaranteed money ever in the league.
With this two big contracts being signed, the expectation is now that Patrick Mahomes will be renegotiating his deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
It appears there are just a couple of things holding up those negotiations from beginning.
During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed that with Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert still waiting to sign contract extensions, we can expect to see Mahomes begin renegotiating his deal once those deals have been finalized.
"It would make more sense to me for Mahomes to wait for Burrow and Herbert to get their new deals..
Once those deals are done then I think he would approach the Chiefs about a new deal"@RapSheet #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/G2Xn9m0Aic

“Herbert needs a deal and Burrow needs a deal,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said. “It would make more sense to me if he lets those deals happen and then came over the top.”
I don’t think there’s any question that Patrick Mahomes should make the most money in the NFL. He has already led the Chiefs to a pair of Super Bowl rings and another appearance in the game. He also just won the 2nd MVP of his career in just his 6th NFL season.
He has clearly established himself as the NFL’s best quarterback and we can expect to see him secure a massive contract.
It looks like we’ll just have to wait until a couple of the league’s other top QBs get paid for him to find out how much the Kansas City Chiefs need to pay him.
