Nick Bienz was the man of the (happy?) hour on Monday as he qualified for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The golfer, who currently works as a golf shop employee, did so after downing a few beers at the club!

The Monday Q Info social media page detailed the incredible day, which ended in a playoff for all the marbles.

After shooting a 65 in his qualifying round, Bienz awaited his fate while others on the course wrapped up. He did so, as many would, by slamming three ice cold beverages on the concourse.

“I need every ounce of alcohol to calm the nervous system,” he said while waiting for the scores of his competitors to be posted. When the final results came in, he found himself in a tie with four other players atop the leaderboard.

The top four players would qualify for the Rocket Mortgage, meaning a playoff was needed to eliminate one golfer in the group.

Luckily, he’d successfully achieved the perfect beer-to-play ratio before participating in that pressure packed moment.

“Remember how I said 3 beers would be a perfect amount? Well, I’m perfect.”

Nick Bienz advanced through the playoff to qualify for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

It would take a while, though!

The group played eight playoff holes, likely causing that buzz to wear off come event’s end. Of course, he probably enjoyed a few celebratory brews after the fact to get back to his previous state of mind.

By qualifying, he now gets the opportunity to play in his first PGA Tour sanctioned tournament, which will tee off on Thursday in Detroit.

Bienz is a graduate of IUPUI where he competed on the school’s golf team. Since graduation, he’s pursued a professional career on the links while working at Golf Galaxy to both fund his dream and hone his craft.

Those efforts have paid off now that he’s booked his spot in the Rocket Mortgage field. Here’s to hoping he gets to celebrate with a few more cold ones when the weekend’s over.
